Virtual Private Networks (VPNs)

Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) provide a way to access information on the campus network when you’re away from HSU. However, this approach is also very attractive to hackers, so HSU request that staff and faculty wishing to use this type of connection use only the campus-approved OpenVPN software.

Getting connected with OpenVPN

While it’s tempting to simply use one of the many personal VPNs available on the internet, these accounts are commonly used by phishers taking advantage of compromised HSU accounts and may well make you more, rather than less, vulnerable. It may also cause us to block your HSU account altogether.
