Technology Equipment Checkout (TEC)

Technology Equipment Checkout (TEC) provides the campus with a broad range of technology support and consultancy services, described below. Contact our office to place your order by giving us a call at x4200 or emailing us at tecmail@humboldt.edu. You can also stop by Gist Hall 221 for checkout inquiries.

Remember that you’ll need to present a valid HSU ID card in order to check out equipment.

  • Short-term loans of technology equipment

A wide range of technology equipment is available for staff and faculty to rent. Students who wish to rent equipment for academic purposes can do so with permission from a faculty advisor using the Student Proxy Form. Staff and faculty are permitted to have equipment up to one week. Equipment for classroom and other academic purposes takes priority over more general requests.

TEC also manages departmental equipment that is available for checkout to students; access to this equipment is subject to departmental conditions and may be restricted to use in specific courses. Currently, we support departmental checkout for Journalism, Art, and Education.

  • Technology support for events

Patrons who require equipment for a non-HSU event will be charged. TEC also has student staff available to provide technical support at the event for a premium rate. TEC staff hired for on-campus events will set-up, configure, and take-down the equipment and provide on-call support. The cost of these services is billed back to the department sponsoring the event; see Rental Equipment for our pricing.

  • Equipment planning and purchasing consultancy

For staff and faculty planning to upgrade or expand media equipment in conference rooms and classrooms, TEC offers consulting and advisory services. Assistance can be provided with equipment specifications and installation placement.
