Intermittent printing problems when printing from Macintosh systems

System:
Pay-for-Print
Status:
Having Trouble
Issue start:
Thursday, February 1, 2018 - 8:42am
Estimated resolution time:
Tuesday, April 17, 2018 - 4:00pm
Who is affected:
Folks using Macintosh computers and trying to print documents might result in an error page being printed instead of the requested print job. This affects both Macintosh computers in labs on campus and personal Macintosh computers using Wireless pay for print. If you experience this problem, you can request a refund and if possible send a copy of the file (to help us troubleshoot) to help@humboldt.edu. Refund requests can be made here: https://its.humboldt.edu/computers-printers-phones/student-printing-refunds
Affected in what way:
You might get an error print when printing documents from Macintosh systems on Campus.
Workaround:
Try printing the same document on a Windows-based computer. If problem with a PDF try printing as "an image". Try replacing the Calibri font in documents and then printing. UPDATE: Students using Pay-for-Print from their personally-owned Macintosh laptops, running High Sierra should update to the latest release 10.13.4 from the App store.
What happened:
We are investigating why these errors are happening. UPDATE: We have determined the issue to be a problem with the Calibri font. Testing with macOS 10.13.4 beta 2 fixes the problem. Apple does not have a release date but we think it will be mid-April. We will update as we learn more. UPDATE 2: Apple just released the update High Sierra 10.13.4 that will fix this issue. We will have started to package the update and will deploy to Macintosh lab computers next week.
