ITS is currently resolving a technical issue with our email filtering system, Proofpoint. A recent configuration error caused some legitimate external and bulk emails (such as newsletters) to be incorrectly blocked and held in a way that prevented users from manually releasing them.
Current Status: The issue has been resolved, and the system has been functioning correctly since yesterday, January 8th, at 3:00 PM. We are now beginning the final step of delivering the messages that were caught in the filter prior to that fix.
What is happening? To ensure no important communications are lost, ITS will be releasing the backlog of held messages to your inboxes throughout the day today.
What this means for you:
Increased Email Volume: You may notice an influx of emails today. Many of these are "bulk" or marketing-style emails originally sent prior to the fix yesterday.
Delayed Messages: You may receive legitimate messages that appear to have been sent earlier this week.
A Note on Security: Please remain cautious. If you receive an email that looks suspicious or asks for your login credentials, do not click any links.
