Research: Reboot Exception Requests - Research Space
To comply with CSU security Policy, Cal Poly Humboldt ITS schedules regular automated installation of security patches and application updates.
Update and Reboot Process in Research Space
2-6 a.m. every Tuesday and Friday security and application updates are installed.
When updates are complete, the computers shut down.
Each computer remains off until a user turns it on, which reboots the machine, applies the patches and updates, and completes the process.
Requesting an Exception to the Reboot Process
If the reboot cycle might interfere with your research needs (e.g., data collection, extended computational processing), you may request an exception:
Open an IT Help Ticket
Include the reason for your reboot exception request
The ISO office will evaluate your request. Please allow 7 business days for your request to be reviewed. If approved, ITS will disable auto log offs, auto shutdown, and forced reboots. ITS will review exceptions annually.
Faculty Responsibilities after Reboot Exception Approved
Faculty need to reboot their computers on a monthly basis so that security updates will be applied. Faculty will receive regular pop up messages prompting them to approve a reboot.
